Tell PBS and IPTV: DON’T AIR SCHOOL INC. SERIES!

“This month the Public Broadcasting System (PBS) is broadcasting a ‘documentary’ that tells a one-sided story, the story that Betsy DeVos herself would tell, based on the work of free-market advocate Andrew Coulson. Uninformed viewers who see this slickly produced program will learn about the glories of unregulated schooling, for-profit schools, teachers selling their lessons to students on the Internet.” From HuffPost article “PBS Runs A Three-Hour Series Glorifying The DeVos Education Agenda” by Diane Ravitch, Research Professor of Education, New York University, and author of ‘Reign of Error.’ The article can be read in its entirety here.

TO: Paula Kerger, President & CEO of PBS, and Molly M. Phillips, Executive Director and General Manager of Iowa Public Television (IPTV)

We, the undersigned, urge you to not broadcast "School Inc.," a series by free-market advocate Andrew Coulson that wants to demolish the publish education system, not build it up. This "documentary" tells a one-sided story, the story that Betsy DeVos herself would tell, that glorifies unregulated schooling, for-profit schools, and teachers selling their lessons to students on the Internet.

Good, quality public education is imperative. Iowans strongly support the idea that all children deserve a world-class education. As such, the state of Iowa provides an excellent public education system that is available to all Iowa children. Some parents choose for their children to be educated through a private school or homeschooling. The state allows for that, as it should. However, the choice to opt out of the public education system is an individual choice. As such, the individual must pay for that private, educational choice.

Please support public education, not propaganda that will tear it down!
