Legislative Advocacy

Interfaith Alliance of Iowa Action Fund’s legislative advocacy includes protecting religious freedom and the separation of religion and government, blocking attempts to insert religion into public policy, strengthening the civil rights of all Iowans, ensuring quality public education for all children in Iowa, and guaranteeing Iowa’s courts remain free from the corruption of money and politics.

We address issues that place religious freedom or separation of government and religion in jeopardy as well as those that misuse religion to discriminate or to justify discriminatory actions.

The Action Fund is at the statehouse throughout the legislative session working on key issues where the influence of religious extremism threatens our democracy and good public policy. Issues include safeguarding and enhancing civil rights, strengthening the anti-bullying law, advocating for full funding of public schools, defending women’s reproductive rights, ensuring voting rights, and protecting Iowa’s fair and impartial courts.

Interfaith Alliance of Iowa Action Fund is a 501(c)(4) organization.

Even if you know your senator or representative is supportive of the issues you care about, please contact them, talk with them and give them your opinion on legislation.

If appropriate for you, always identify yourself as a person of faith. Legislators must understand there is a broad spectrum of opinions from people of faith on the many issues before the legislature.

Call your legislators. Write an email or letter. Attend a legislative forum in your district or visit the capitol. Your state representative and senator need to know your opinion on the issues and that you are paying attention to their votes.
