A coalition of over 30 progressive Iowa organizations, MMI proactively supports the moral good sought through policies that span a range of progressive issues and works for the advancement of Iowa values like equality, fairness, and justice.

Leaders in Congress are negotiating a budget plan that would take health coverage and nutrition assistance away from millions of people — all to pay for tax cuts for the wealthiest households and corporations. Although negotiations are happening among lawmakers in DC, they have massive implications for lawmakers in Des Moines.
Join us for a look at how proposed federal Medicaid and SNAP cuts would end up shifting costs to Iowa, leaving state legislators on the hook to make up for millions of dollars of cuts — and nothing but bad choices. Such a challenge could hardly come at a worst time, as recent rounds of tax cuts are already forcing Iowa lawmakers to tap one-time surpluses to balance the budget.
